USPS plans to hire 35,000-40,000 seasonal workers for 2016 holiday season

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced that it plans to hire between 35,000 and 40,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season.

usps-mail-trucks-160x120In a statement published on Friday (30 September), USPS said that it has “already begun the process and is seeing good response around the country.”

In 2015, USPS hired nearly 29,000 seasonal workers to perform as mail handlers, retail associates, some tractor trailer drivers and city carrier assistants.

USPS said that, “where it makes sense”, it will “offer experienced employees additional work hours, as that can be more cost effective than training a new employee for a short timeframe.”

USPS added that it also looking to “recent retirees” to “come back and help deliver holiday cheer” because “they have virtually no learning curve, and can hit the ground running as they make some extra cash during the holidays.”
